PE Only this week!

Happy Holidays!!!

Since we have a short week of school, there will only be a PE assignment due this week. Please try to stay active this week and over the winter break. We trust that you will have plenty of opportunities to get outside over the winter break. Use this time to take a break from technology and get some fresh air and exercise. I hope everyone has a safe, healthy and blessed holiday season.

Enjoy "Mother Nature"

Hopefully everyone can get a chance to enjoy the outside and get away from the "virtual" setting and take in some fresh air. We hope everyone stayed safe through the storm and is digging their way out. Stay safe and get out to enjoy some of natures beauty.

Virtual Learning in Full Swing

It is a beautiful morning and as they say "The calm before the storm!"

With a big winter storm on the horizon, the opportunity to get outside and play in the snow, sled or even help shovel is there for everyone. Please use this chance to get off of the computer, away from technology and enjoy the outdoors. We know it is difficult to learn in the virtual setting please understand it is not easy to teach either. There is a health assignment due at the end of the week, along with a PE assignment. Please make sure to record your activity during the week, and "Turn In" the assignments at the end of the week.

Please stay safe and healthy!
We miss you!

Stay positive, we will be together soon!!!

Virtual Week!!!

We have another week of Virtual Learning this week 12/7-12/11.  It is important that students complete the assignments in Google Classroom and then "Turn In' the assignment. This will allow students to have their responses submitted for a grade.

Physical Education and Health grades will remain Satisfactory (S), Need Improvement (NI), or Unsatisfactory (U). Assignments are given due dates so students can meet the State Mandate of 150 minutes of PE and Health each week. It is difficult for students to make up the assignments if they miss them, because the 150 minutes is per week and cannot be averaged over a period of time. We have been very lenient in accepting assignments past their due dates. We cannot stress enough that assignments need to be completed by the due date. This will ensure that we are meeting the NJ Health and PE standards.

Remote Learning

We are back to an all remote learning format beginning today, November 30, 2020!

Students will be required to complete both a Physical Education and Health Assignment each week during our remote learning.

PE assignments will have the students participate in exercises each day, trying hard to get at least 60 minutes a day of activity.

Health assignments will continue to be virtual assignments each week, concentrating on different objectives from our mandated Health Curriculum.

A combination of Health and PE activities should total a minimum of 150 minutes a week to meet our State requirements.

Handing assignments in late, does not meet our state mandate!!!

When completing PE assignments, students will fill out a Google Form at the end of the week checking off which days they completed the assigned exercises. After completing the Google Form students need to go back into the assignment and "Turn In" the assignment. This is a 2 step process that needs to be completed for the student to receive credit for completing the assignment.  If both steps are not completed the student will not receive credit, and the assignment will be marked as NOT HANDED IN! These exercises are designed to have students move and be active each day, hoping to have students active each day. Please remember these are a starting point, and we would love to have the students get away from the computer and away from technology and screen time, enjoying fresh air and getting a well deserved break.

Please E-mail me: rcauston@oxfordcentral.org with any questions or concerns.

Noise Induced Hearing Loss

Our 5th-8th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in a research study to investigate the knowledge and attitudes regarding noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) among adolescences.  This is a great opportunity to help gather data on a growing area of concern. All parents/guardians of our 5th-8th grade students have been emailed a letter describing the study and directions on how to sign-up to be part of the study.  Thanks for considering to help with this research study!

Week #4 Assisgnments

Assignments for Week #4 have been added to Google Classroom. We are required to have students complete 150 minutes a week of Physical Education and Health. Even thought students are being seen at school, they need to complete Virtual Assignments in Physical Education and Health in order for us to meet the State Mandate.

Due Dates

Please be aware that we are changing when assignments are being turned in. We are requesting that students submit their work to us by 5:00 PM on Fridays. That will give us a little more time to grade and record the assignments. New assignments are posted on Monday mornings at 8:30 AM.

Quick Reminder

If you participated in the PACER tests in PE this week, you do not need to complete the PE portion of Week #2 in Google Classroom.

The PACER assignment in PE class is for students who are remote, or were not in school to participate in the assessments during PE class.

Have a great weekend!!!

Great Resource for Home and Virtual Learning

Good morning,

Here are links to two videos on the library's YouTube channel.  The first covers how to get a library card and the second is about placing items on hold.  We don't have a video about picking up items through curbside pickup, but instructions for doing so can be found on our website, https://warrenlib.org/content/curbside-service#.X2NinWhKiUk.

Signing up for a library card: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66mixKbdbrU
Placing items on hold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-r7QQ7b4Ok&t=2s

I hope these videos are suitable for your students' needs. I would be happy to meet with teachers or classes on Zoom if necessary. It seems like a good way to address questions they may have. Please let me know if we may be of further assistance.

Working Hard

Students are working hard to increase their fitness levels in our PE classes. Our older students are working on the PACER Tests to measure cardiovascular endurance, core strength and arm strength. These assessments will help us to form a baseline for each student and measure their progress throughout the year.

Our younger students are doing various exercises to increase their endurance also. We are using jump ropes with some classes, disinfecting them after each class. Thanks for everyone's support!

Start With Hello...

This week for our health classes the entire school will be working with a program called, Start With Hello.

The Start With Hello program brings attention to the growing epidemic of loneliness and social isolation—which often leads to bullying, violence, and depression—and teaches young people how to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness.

The students will learn how to do this using three steps- See Someone Along, Reach Out And Help, and Start With Hello.

The program has become interactive for use at home due to the current pandemic.  Students will be provided with a unique log in code when we see them in PE class this week.  For our all remote learners, we will send you an email with your log in and further instructions.

Welcome Back!!!

welcome back minions GIF

Welcome Back to everyone, this is going to be an exciting year!

Please be aware that students will be completing all Health assignments virtually. Students who are "in person class" will have PE 2 times per week, but will also need to complete virtual assignments in order to meet our State Mandates for PE and Health.

Students who have chosen the virtual option, need to complete ALL PE and Health activities in Google Classroom. At this time we do not have the capability to teach PE classes via a "Live Feed". When students are home during virtual learning, they can complete the assignments through Google Classroom.

Please take a moment and go into your Google Classroom for Health and PE. All the assignments are listed in your classroom. The assignments have been modified for you to use the Google Suites so you can edit the worksheets directly and then "Turn In" the assignment when finished. This is the way we are "handing in" work and how I can evaluate or assess what you have completed. Assignments are either by week or two weeks. Once the assignment is turned in I will grade it and send it back to you. All the materials needed to complete the assignments are in Google Classroom so this should help with making the assignment visible from one link. Please let me know if you have any questions!  rcauston@oxfordcentral.org
